Monkeypox was first identified in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Monkeypox has arrived in Pennsylvania.

According to the city’s Public Health Service, the first possible case of the disease in the state has been identified in Philadelphia residents. Preliminary trials are being conducted by the Pennsylvania Health Department Institute and trials by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are still pending.

According to a news release, city and state health departments are investigating how the person was exposed and whether anyone else was exposed after the infection.

“The threat of monkeypox to Philadelphia is very low,” Dana Perella, director of the Ministry of Health’s Acute Infectious Diseases Program, said in a news release.
