Mets shines in Mets and defeats the sloppy Diamondbacks 6-2

Phoenix — Tyler Megil’s fastball was on fire. JD Davis defeated his first home run of the year, and the opportunistic New York Mets defeated the sloppy Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 on Sunday to win another ball game.

Consistent with the franchise record set in 2018, it’s been a good time for these Mets to win two out of three against the D-Bucks in five consecutive victories to start the season.

Leaders in the National League East leave the desert with a record of 12-5.

“We’re going to taste it,” Davis said. “But we know how this game goes — it can make you really quick and humble. I’m glad it’s April. You have to step on the accelerator pedal. . “

This was another good show for New York starting pitchers who appeared in the game with a record of 8-2 and ERA of 2.44. Megill (3-0) gave up 2 runs and 4 hits in 6 2/3 innings and walked 1. He sometimes overwhelmed the Diamondbacks with a fastball that sat in the range of 96-97 mph throughout the afternoon.

“I felt everything was working,” Megill said. “Throw a lot of strikes today.”

Diamondbacks were not very effective on the plate, with one notable exception. Arizona tied it in a quarter with a 467-foot drive of Christian Walker to the left center landing on the concourse behind the seat.

It was the second longest home run in his career, after the 479-foot walker who hit the Clayton Kershaw in 2018.

Arizona got off to another good start with veteran left-handed Madison Bumgarner. Madison Bumgarner gave up one unwinned run and four hits with four strikeouts in five innings. The four All-Stars have 1.00 ERA through his first four outings.

“Everyone here wants to win, everyone wants to make a play,” Bumgarner said. “This is a game that is sometimes frustrating. It doesn’t always work.”

Mets won the D-Bucks bullpen, scoring 1 run in the 6th inning and 2 runs in the 7th inning, leading 4-1. New York took advantage of Arizona’s three errors to trigger two unwinned runs.

Davis’ solo homer was the beginning of his season. JB Wendelken (0-1) lost after giving up one run with the relief of one inning.

Both James McCann and Starling Marte were hit by pitch, bringing the Mets’ season total to MLB height 14.

At least HBP was helpful. Both players plummeted in the 7th inning as Mets scored two goals.

Even the team pitcher was unaffected by the pain. Relief Seth Lugo fired a line shot from Daulton Varsho for the eighth time. The ball bounced off McCann and the catcher was able to throw Valsho first. Lugo was not injured and remained in the match.

Sloppy

It was another poor defensive game for D-Buck. Arizona entered the game with 15 errors, which is the second highest number in the league.

Third baseman Sergio Alcantara made two mistakes, and catcher Jose Elera’s stolen base made a false throw to third base, with Marte scoring in third place. The Arizona bullpen wasn’t great either, hitting two batters on the pitch and walking two more on the seventh.

“Pitching and defense didn’t do the job, and next, you looked up and you gave up six runs,” said Torey Lovullo, manager of Diamondbacks. “There are very fine lines between runs that lead to wins or losses.”

Trainer room

Mets: Manager Buck Showalter told reporters that RHP Jacob DeGrom (shoulder) actually did a CT scan instead of an MRI on Friday. Follow-up MRI is scheduled for Monday.

Diamondbacks: Put RHP Umberto Castellanos on parental leave and summoned RHP Taylor Widener from Triple A Reno.
