Little League: Pittton Area 8-10 just one win away from the Softball Eastern Regional Title

Light TWP. — Thursday’s winners between the Piston area and Rhode Island rep’s Cranston Western, his bracket final looked like his two different games separated by a nearly 90-minute rain delay.

A duel of the pitchers in the first two and a half innings turned into a bit of a brawl after the game restarted as the Pittstone area’s five-run third inning held up to a 5-4 victory in an 8-10 softball. Eastern Regionals of the Mountain Top Little League.

The Piston area, currently 3-0 in a double-elimination tournament, has beaten its ticket to Saturday’s championship round, where the team has two chances to win the regional title.

“We haven’t lost any All-Stars. We were a little worried about falling behind. “But we stayed focused.”

It wasn’t easy for the Pittston area. The District 16 champion saw his five-run lead narrowed to three runs in the top of his fourth inning, and to just one run in the fifth.

However, Ainsley Lear came on the pitch in relief for Eva Thomas in the fifth inning, stranded a tying run at third base to end the fifth, and stranded another runner in Cranston’s final at-bat. and sealed the victory.

“She’s a gamer,” Kroski said of Lear.

Through Thursday’s first few innings, it looked as if Thomas and Cranston starter Olivia Graziano were 0-0 with each other on the scoreboard.

Thomas struck out six times in the first three innings, and Pittston came into the plate in the bottom of the third when a lightning strike delayed the game.

It took about 90 minutes for the weather to improve and the game to resume. But when it was done, the Piston area was ready.

Graziano, who had gone through the first two innings comfortably in Cranston’s circle, had trouble controlling from the extended break.

She walked four batters and retired just one in the bottom of the third, with Pittston scoring the first run on a bases-loaded walk from the rear.

Isabella Marcano tried to take the bases loaded in relief, but Lydia Lubender drove in two runs and Thomas then had his own base hits to two batters and brought home two more.

Suddenly, a scoreless draw turned into a 5-0 Piston area lead that the Cranston Westerns were completely unable to beat.

“We talked about keeping their heads up, about keeping their efforts at a high level,” Kuroski said of his discussions with the delayed team.

“We knew we needed to come out and make runs against a team this good. …These competitive games make us stronger.”

After she was able to get the final two outs of the three, Marcano settled in and pitched great late in the ballgame, striking out a total of seven hitters and keeping Cranston alive in the rally.
