Lehi Christian Academy evacuated after students felt unwell

The preventative evacuation at Lehigh Christian Academy in Salisbury Township ended Monday afternoon after multiple tests detected no toxic chemicals or gases in the building.

Several students suddenly started feeling sick on Monday and reported headaches and other symptoms of potential concern, said Jeremy Kappes, the school’s director of development. Or as a precaution against another possible gas poisoning, the school was evacuated around 12:30pm and called authorities to investigate and test some students.

Kappes said three tests of the building and examination of all students who reported feeling unwell found no signs of gas poisoning or any other identifiable cause. The building was determined to be safe for re-entry, so students and faculty returned indoors between approximately 1:45 PM and 2:00 PM.

The academy continued preventive checks of school facilities, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, around 2:15 p.m. Monday, Kappes said. students felt somewhat better, he said.
