Blair County Airport speaks out about problems with third-party reservations

(WTAJ) – Inflation and rising costs may make it tempting to find the cheapest deals for travel, but saving a few bucks by using an online travel agent instead of booking direct can cost you money later. There is a possibility.

Altoona-Blair County Airport service provider Contour Airlines says there’s a consistent trend of customers using third parties like Expedia and Travelocity to book flights, causing those flights to be canceled and passengers to be confused. It says.

In those situations, Contour Airline says there’s not much it can do to accommodate them, other than asking them to contact the original third party who booked the ticket.

Station manager Brian Ford said customers could be waiting on their cell phones for hours to contact travel sites. Ford says he understands the frustration and confusion the situation can cause, but the bottom line is that when you use a third party, you’re their customer, not the airline.

“If there is a snowstorm and we cannot fly because of the weather, the flight will be cancelled,” Ford said. “On our part, we can easily re-accommodate everyone on the next available flight. Nothing. Sometimes they have to wait for hours.”

Flights aren’t the only concern at Altoona Blair County Airport. Avis-Budget car rental service says its customers are experiencing the same problem with their rental car.
