Kutztown University announced that in the second game of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Semifinal Doubleheader, Barks Catholic graduate Dejaterel helped California (PA) defeat Shepherd 78-49 in the first game. I lost to -47.
Golden Knights (23-6) and Balkan (24-4) are competing for the title in Kutztown at 3 pm today.
PSAC East’s top seed, Golden Bears (26-6), never lost to West 2 seed.
Ganon scored the first 6 points of the game, leading 12 points in the first half and then 34-24 in the half-time.
Kutztown gathered to tie it twice, with the last time 40-40 and 7:33 remaining. The Golden Bears were still down 43-42 after two foul shots by Nia Priam with 6:20 remaining, but the Golden Knights scored the next 6 points and 49 with 1:38 remaining. It rose to -42.
Puriam hit three pointers and cut 49-47 with 52 seconds remaining, but Ganon advanced 6-6 from the remaining line.
The Golden Bears shot 2-12 from the field in the fourth quarter.
Casey Remolde led the KU with 15 points. Pulliam was 11 and Rylee Derr was 10.
Samantha Pirosco scored 16 points against Ganon. Emmarite had 15 points and 8 rebounds.
In the first game, PSAC West Athletes and Defensive Player of the Year junior forward Terrell scored 11 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks and 3 steals before fouling out.
Western top seed Cal controlled 16-2 in the second quarter, turning the 18-14 deficit into a 30-20 lead. He led 37-29 in half time.
The Vulcans then scored the first 6 points in the second half, leading 43-29 for 10 consecutive victories.
Ciaira Lloyd led California with 25 points and Shauna Harrison with 15 points.
Sydney Clayton scored 18 points to lead the third-placed team from the east, Shepherd (24-7). Marley McLaughlin and Abbey Beeman each scored 14 points.
