The second day of Lancaster’s annual Roots & Blues Festival is over, but Joan Osborne, Sweetreda, and G. It wasn’t without featuring famous acts such as Love and Juice.

Some venues featured a day’s worth of rock, blues, jazz and experimental performances.

Sunday is the final day of the festival, and Freedom Hall will feature another full line of music ending with Duolar Kimpo, a descendant of Edgar Allenpo.

Here are the six performances I saw on the second day of Roots & Blues:


Joan Osborne



Roots and Blues Day 2

Joan Osborne is 25S in downtown Lancaster for Lancaster Roots & Bruce on Saturday, October 16, 2021. I played at Freedom Hall at Lancaster Marriott on Queen Street.




The multifaceted artist Joan Osborne performed at Freedom Hall at the Lancaster County Convention Center.

Her hits included “Shake Your Hips” and “I Want To Be Loved.”

Fans packed Freedom Hall for Osborne’s performance. The crowd was lively and excited every time.


Sweet Reda



Roots and Blues Day 2

Sweet Leda will be 26E for Lancaster Roots & Blues on Saturday, October 16, 2021. I played at the Holiday Inn Lancaster Grande Ballroom on Chestnut Street.




Sweet Leda performed at the Holiday Inn in downtown Lancaster with the participation of internationally acclaimed saxophonist Ron Holloway.

Sweet Leda is a Maryland-based band best known for Julie Cymek’s soulful vocals.

This outfit has been played many times in Roots & Blues and has appeared many times in Lancaster’s LAUNCH Music Conference & Festival for up-and-coming bands.


Cole Brook Road



Roots and Blues Day 2

Colebrook Road is 112N downtown Lancaster for Lancaster Roots & Bruce on Saturday, October 16, 2021. I played at Zoetropolis on Water Street.




Harrisburg-based bluegrass band Colebrook Road performed at Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse for Roots & Blues.

Recently, the band won the Best Bluegrass Band Award at the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame and Awards Ceremony.

The band will release their latest album “Hindsight is 2020” on October 22nd.


G. love and juice



Roots and Blues Day 2

G. Love and Juice is 25S in downtown Lancaster for Lancaster Roots & Bruce on Saturday, October 16, 2021. I played at Lancaster Marriott’s Freedom Hall on Queen Street.




G. Love and the Juice brought a lot of energy to the 10 pm Freedom Hall show at the Lancaster County Convention Center.

Philadelphia-based costumes, commonly known as G. Love and the Special Sauce, were named G. Love and the Juice for this performance.

G. Love (real name Garrett Dutton) is touring to support his latest album, The Juice, which has been nominated for the Granny Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.


Delbon Lamar Organ Trio



Roots and Blues Day 2

Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio performed for Lancaster Roots & Blues on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 24 E. King St.’s Tellus 360 in downtown Lancaster.




Behind the crowded Tellus 360, the soul jazz band Delbon Lamar Organ Trio performed.

The band is best known for their contemporary jazz style, and their debut album, “Close But No Cigar,” has become a top spot on the US contemporary jazz album charts.


Tommy Z



Roots and Blues Day 2

Tommy Z is 26E in downtown Lancaster for Lancaster Roots & Bruce on Saturday, October 16, 2021. I played at the Imperial Blue Ballroom on Holiday Inn Lancaster on Chestnut Street.




An award-winning blues artist performed at the Holiday Inn in downtown Lancaster.

Tommy got off the stage in the middle of the song and played in the middle of the ballroom.



Roots and Blues Day 2

Tommy Z performed in the crowd on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Lancaster Roots & Blues Festival.




During the show, Tommy played his own cover of Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s “Gangster of Love” and the original song “The Lovin’I Miss”.
