Pittsburgh (KDKA)-Due to this morning’s water main break, residents have been expelled from their homes in the Brentwood district of Pittsburgh.
Neighbors said a few days ago they noticed a small amount of running water flowing from the top of the hill and didn’t think much about it. It was until this morning when their garden and basement were filled with water.
The Sunview Drive people woke up without water this morning-at least not where they wanted.
Pennsylvania American Water said the 8-inch water main broke this morning, affecting 20 homes.
After the customer called 911, the water was stopped, but not before their property and roads were damaged.
Lisa Healy said street residents were aware of a recent slow leak, but thought it was a drainage channel and were happy to have renter’s insurance because the basement and garage were damaged by the flood.
“My basement, it sounded just like a waterfall, it was coming in through walls, support beams, windows, and it was just gushing,” she recalled.
Penn-American Water said repairs are underway and are expected to return by 5 pm today.
