IASD middle school students raise funding for Turkeyton | News

Middle school students in the Indiana area were welcomed to United Way’s Turkeyton Turkey on Tuesday. The friendly gobbling of turkeys brightened their day and reminded them that it was time to celebrate Turkey Tuesday, the largest fundraising day to support the United Way Turkeython event.

The Student Council Club (STUCO) helped organize this school-wide initiative “so more families can eat turkey on Thanksgiving,” said STUCO Officer Billy Taylor. Students, staff and families of Indiana-area middle schools have already raised more than $2,500 for him, approaching her goal of $5,280. Along with the rest of the group, Taylor also challenged students throughout middle school, with the homeroom class that collected the most donations in each grade receiving Portia’s donut party.

The efforts of the students are commendable and serve as examples of what it means to unite and give back to the community. Turkeython, in support of United Way, is providing turkeys, food certificates and groceries to local organizations throughout Indiana County to help feed those in need this Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their efforts help support children, families and veterans.
