How to prepare for cold and flu season

(WKBN) – Cold and flu season is upon us. If you suffer from coughs and colds, you may be tempted to try different remedies in hopes of feeling better.

The Cleveland Clinic says staying hydrated and getting enough rest are the best ways to fight the common cold. Staying hydrated prepares your body to flush toxins out of your system.

Rest boosts your immune system to fight off viruses.

The Cleveland Clinic should exercise caution when using experimental treatments found online.

“Drink lots of fluids. Decaffeinated drinks are best. So remember the soup, any kind of soup, any kind of soup, chicken soup, lentil soup, miso soup, etc. And all the water-based things you can consume are trying to fight the common cold,” said Neha Bias, M.D., of the Cleveland Clinic.

If you are unsure about taking a particular supplement, contact your health care provider first.
