Rookie Tanner Bibby struck out eight combined with two hitters as the Guardians beat the Phillies 1-0.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Rookie Tanner Bibby struck out eight in seven innings and Ahmed Rosario scored on a pop-up misplay in the sixth inning as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0 on Saturday night.

Bybee (6-2) held the Phillies to two hits and one walk in the second-longest start in the majors. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed one runner to break through to first base, marking a four-game winning streak.

Eniel de los Santos served as No. 8, and All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase added two RBI totals for the Guardians. The Guardians have won four of their five games and are second in the AL Central. Crace had his 27th save in 34 chances.

Cleveland scored its only run in the sixth inning with two outs, when Jose Ramirez’s batted ball fell between second baseman Bryson Stott, center fielder Brandon Marsh, and right fielder Nick Castellanos in a classic example of miscommunication.

Rosario took advantage of the mistake and chased from the front, ruining a good run by Philadelphia starter Zach Wheeler (7-5). The right-handed pitcher threw 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and 8 strikeouts, his first loss since the match against Arizona on May 22nd.

The Phillies hit a double by Edmundo Sosa and a single by Trea Turner, but the Phillies lost four in a row and missed two games from the final wild card slot in the National League.

Bybee held Philadelphia to one hit through the first five, but Cleveland got two singles off Wheeler. Neither team advanced a runner from second base until the top of the sixth when Sosa was stuck at third base.

A crowd of 37,937 attended, marking Cleveland’s first consecutive home sell-out since July 13 and 14, 2018.

Dandy debut

Phillies DH Bryce Harper continues to battle a cold that affects his voice, but was otherwise fine the day after he fell into the photo pit on a great catch in his first base debut.

“Bryce said he was feeling great,” said manager Rob Thomson, whose voice is also hoarse due to the illness. “Nothing happened from the fall, so that was good news.”

Harper became the 25th player in MLB history to appear in at least 1,400 games before making his first career infield start on Friday. He went 0-for-3 against Bibby.

Phillies: RHP Noah Song (low back pain), who has been on the disabled list all season, was scheduled to make the penultimate appearance Saturday against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The Rule 5 selection must be activated or returned to the Red Sox by July 28, when the rehab mandate ends.

Parents: RHP Shane Bieber (right elbow inflammation), RHP Cal Quantrill (right shoulder inflammation) and RHP Triston McKenzie (right elbow sprain) are each rehabbing in Cleveland. “Everyone self-reports that they are doing well,” said director Terry Francona.
