The Flyers put up a fight, but lost 4-0 to the Isles.

Elmont, NY – Give Flyers a little credit.

In Saturday night’s game at UBS Arena, the Flyers were looking to compete against a more talented New York Islanders team.

Still, the Flyers continued their game effort and didn’t give in, although coming out on the short side with a 4-0 score didn’t show it.

It was the Flyers’ fifth straight loss, failing to pull off a 0-5-1 win in their last six games.

With New York battling Florida and Pittsburgh for a three-way battle for an Eastern Conference wild card spot, New York needed a win to keep pace with their rivals. All three teams are within one point of each other with only two games left of him.

The Flyers’ four-game road trip ended with a 0-4 mark.

Goalkeeper Carter Hart, making his 200th game appearance in the NHL, faced many quality chances and held his own. The second and third Islanders goals by Brock Nelson and Samuel Bolduc in the second period came off semi-breakaways with shots from close range.

Hart couldn’t find any major flaws in the Flyers’ overall effort.

“We played hard but gave them too much time and space,” Hart said. “They were able to create some chances and took advantage of them.

“There were some pucks in the net, but really no bounces. I thought we played hard in their zone. ”

Nelson scored at 7:50 when the Flyers defense left a too wide gap down the middle. Defenseman Noah Dobson, who was standing on New York’s end line, fired a pass that Nelson caught with all his might. A shot from the right circle had no chance for Hart.

Bolduc made it 3-0 at 15:06.

The defense found open ice on the left. He received a pass from Bo his ho bat and scored from his dot faceoff. The Isles added their fourth goal at 1:39 as Hudson Fashing finished the 2–1 rush.

“The third thing I wanted to give back,” Hart said.

In the first period, Scott Mayfield scored at 14:19 on a long shot through traffic. The goal was originally credited to Anders Lee, but officials canceled the goal after the period was over.

Coach John Tortorella chose to pull Hart after the second period and inserted Felix Sandstrom in the third. He allowed his fourth goal for the Islanders.

Hart said he didn’t know why Tortorella switched to Sandstrom for season three.

“I didn’t feel like I deserved to be pulled over,” Hart said. “it is what it is.”

“I wanted to get rid of him,” Tortorella said when asked why he left.

It was the Flyers’ sixth shutout of the season. New York goalkeeper Ilya Sorokin recorded his sixth shutout of the season.

Like any game these days, the Flyers played decently in the first period, but crumbled a bit in the second period.

“They are a very disciplined team,” said James van Riemsdyk. “They don’t really give you anything for free. A few times it seemed like they could have been sharper. If they make even one small mistake, it creates their chance.”

Travis Sanheim added: They are a tough team to play against and are vying for playoff berths. You could see it tonight. We didn’t close enough chances. They took their chance and we didn’t.”

The second and third goals in New York may have been partly due to a fairly positive outlook by the Flyers.

“The first period was good,” said Tortorella. “We just can’t keep up. We’re playing spurts right now.

“They beat us with a lot of long passes. I thought we were flat at times. had.”

The Flyers will return home to face the league-leading Boston Bruins on Sunday night. The Flyers are just 2-11-1 in the second half of back-to-back games. The Flyers successfully challenged what appeared to be a Zach Paris goal in the second period. After review, the referee said Paris had hit the puck with a high stick.
