The Green Bay Packers have sold more than $ 41 million in shares in just one week to the sixth-ever share offering in franchise history.
The team said on Wednesday that it sold over 138,000 shares for $ 300 per share. The NFL’s only community-owned club last offered shares 10 years ago.
More than half of the 300,000 shares offered will continue to be available. WLUK-TV reports that the sale of shares will take place until February 25, unless all shares available before that date have been sold.
Packers leaders say they will spend money on upgrading to Lambo Field, which includes a new video board.
The team is not obligated to repay the amount the buyer pays to purchase the shares. Packers say that anyone considering whether to buy stock in a team shouldn’t buy it to make a profit or get dividends or tax deductions.
