1 killed in Monroe County police chase 19 miles

One person died Thursday morning in Stroud Township, Monroe County after a traffic stop led to a police chase.

According to a news release, state troopers have initiated traffic stops for both mobility and equipment violations and suspected DUIs.

The male driver had a valid arrest warrant and refused to get out of the vehicle. Police said the man fled the scene in his car after becoming belligerent.

Police chased the car for about 19 miles before it crashed into a wooded area.

The driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries. A further passenger died at the scene.
