Bishop Altoona shares thoughts after the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

Altoona, Pennsylvania (WTAJ) — Death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVIBishop Altoona issued a statement on the loss of the first Pope to resign in 600 years.

Bishop Mark Burchak issued a statement on Saturday announcing that the Altoona Johnstown Diocese will hold a local ceremony to commemorate Pope Emeritus Benedict.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI,” said Bishop Baczak. “Today I join Catholics around the world in mourning the end of his earthly pilgrimage and celebrating a life of faithful service to the Church.

Bishop Bartchak said he was inspired over the years by Pope Benedict and considered him a great theologian.

In 2011, Bishop Balchak had the opportunity to meet Pope Benedict twice in Rome. At the second meeting, Bishop Birchak said he had a very friendly conversation with him after he lost his luggage. He even prayed that Bishop Birchak would find his luggage.

Bishop Bartchak invites Catholics within the community to join him in prayer for his eternal rest and invites the community to participate in the fire ceremony of his life. Details will be announced soon.
