ReportedlyThe 44-year-old Deputy Sheriff of Montgomery County, who was assigned to the MTF of the Bomb Disposal Unit, suffered a gunshot wound on his right shoulder. A 16-year veteran on behalf of the sheriff was supporting the Philadelphia police. This is as often done by law enforcement agencies in the surrounding counties at large events in the city.
The shooting took place on Monday night during a fireworks show near the Akins Oval in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Another police officer, a 36-year-old Philadelphia police highway patrol officer, was grazing on his forehead. He has been in power for 14 years.
According to 6ABC.com, police believe the shooting came from a location in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, but behind the main stage of the Akin’s Oval.
The names of officers have not been announced. Both were taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Mayor Jim Kenny, who also attended the press conference, did not chop up the words when asked about the gun crisis in the city.
“If I had the ability to take care of guns. I would … but the legislature wouldn’t allow us. The US Congress wouldn’t allow us. The governor would do as much as he could. Our Attorney General will do his best to do what he can, but this is a country of guns. It’s crazy, “he said.
So far, there are no words about suspects or arrests in this shooting. Police are asking anyone who has the information, or who may have photos or videos of the shooting, to call 215-686-TIPS (8477).
