Bellefonte — The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation has awarded the Kepler Community Pool a $1.3 million grant. This grant, part of the 2022 Community Conservation Partnership Program, is intended to help restore the gathering place this summer.
According to a grant awarded to the Nittany Valley Joint Recreation Authority, the funds will be used to improve bathhouses, concessions and parking lots, as well as construct new wading pools, filtration, recreational systems and utility improvements. . The pool will improve handicapped access, landscaping and signage.
After being in use for more than 50 years, the pool and its facilities are showing signs of aging with various structural deficiencies, officials said.
Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Kelly Benninghoff said, “The return of taxpayer investment in the Kepler Community Pool will revitalize and renew this vital asset for the Bellefonte/Spring/Walker/Intervalley area. It helps a lot,” he commented. “The Kepler Community Pool has historically been a big gathering place for families in our community during the summer months. We can make the most of our resources.”
