A wildfire burns two acres in East Springfield on Thursday.
The Springfield Volunteer Fire Department was called to a site near the Springfield Cemetery around 3 pm Thursday.
A quarter acre of the field was reported to be burning. However, when the crew arrived at the scene, the fire had spread to two acres.
The crew requested an additional brush unit from AF Dobler Hose and Ladder Company.
The fire was extinguished after about an hour.
According to the Chief of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department, the cause was probably “a person trying to smoke a smoke grenade groundhog hole.”
