County Receives Impact Fees Over $ 112,000 | News

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission said Monday that more than $ 146.25 million should be distributed by the end of next month at the Article 13 impact fee collected from natural gas producers.

PUC said counties and municipalities directly affected by drilling will receive approximately $ 71.49 million in the reporting year of 2020.

For Indiana County, this includes a direct donation of $ 63,322.17, plus $ 49,261.13 from what is called the Marcellus Legacy Fund, for a total of $ 112,583.30, and donations to all 38 municipalities.

The county total is down from 2019, with wells at $ 84,944.68 and legacy funds at $ 71,380.73, for a total of $ 156,325.41.

“Pennsylvania’s natural gas tax continues to bring significant benefits to the entire federation,” said David Callahan, president of the Marcellus Shale Coalition. “The impact tax, which has generated more than $ 2 billion since 2012, is a successful policy for Pennsylvania residents, local governments, environmental protection programs, emergency response efforts and more.”

It will also be distributed to all 38 municipalities in Indiana County, most often smaller than last year. Fees are determined by the number of unconventional wells or wells excavated or ejected in a particular year to utilize unconventional formations such as Marcellus shale.
