Dirt Bike Riders Surround and Destroy Two Philadelphia Police Cars at Rivers Casino

Philadelphia police said dirt bike riders and a crowd outside Rivers Casino surrounded two cars early Sunday morning and vandalized them while officers were still inside, adding to an earlier similar attack in North Philadelphia. A third police car was damaged in the incident.

Police said the incident at Rivers Casino began shortly after 2 a.m. when police officers on patrol approached the casino on Delaware Avenue in Fishtown.

Officers drove into a location where a crowd was blocking the parking garage doorway. Police said he flashed the overhead lights of his car and honked his horn in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Afterwards, “an aggressive crowd jumped into the officers’ car and banged on the windows,” according to a police report.

Another police car arrived to help the co-pilot.

“The crowd then started banging on the police car and puncturing its tires,” the report said.

The crowd dispersed as other officers arrived. Two police cars were damaged, but no officers were injured, police said.

Officers had to solve a similar case when another police vehicle was vandalized at 12:30 a.m. Sunday on the 400 block of North Fifth Street in North Philadelphia.
