Colin Firth avoided talking to the murderer Michael Peterson before acting on the “stairs.”
The 61-year-old actor plays a real-life writer convicted of murdering his second wife, Kathleen Peterson (Toni Collette), in a crime nonfiction drama on HBO Max. “If he talks about it with Peterson, talk.
Firth explained to Deadline: “I felt how the script was structured. The whole approach to this was, so to speak, a unique ecosystem.
“These are the characters created, but we all know what the source is.
“Everyone knows that these characters have the names of living people, but they are very carefully tuned to tell the story in a particular way.”
He continued: “I wanted to keep my inspiration, motivation, and sense of source material as close as possible to the script and the way it was written.”
The “Love Actually” star added, “If I have a personal connection with Michael Peterson and other stakeholders, I don’t want his portrayal to be distorted in any way. It has prevented me from being attuned to this world of various possibilities created. “
Sophie Turner and Patrick Schwarzenegger also appear in the miniseries.
