Liberty Men’s Tennis Defeats Freedom to Win District 11 3A Title for Fifth in Last Six Seasons

A dynasty is visiting the men’s tennis program at Liberty High School.

On Friday, the Hurricanes won two District 11 3A titles in a row and five championships in the past six years.

They added another gold to their portfolio with a 3-2 victory over rival Freedom at Saucon Valley High School.

Freedom’s No. 1 singles player and three-time district singles champion Noah Potts won 6-2, 6-0, while Liberty was led by Luke Appleman and No. 3 David Brozkowski. He fought back with victory in the No. 2 singles.

Jackson Jobes and Elijah Quan then won the second doubles to score the decisive points.

“It’s a testament to the kids’ hard work,” Hurricanes coach Chris Conrad said. We spend a lot of time recruiting kids in. We had 35 members on our team, so they keep pushing each other and trying to get better.Here today, There are a lot of people who can frankly step in and help us out.”

The Liberty went 19-0 in the regular season and 15-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, but Parkland lost four of the team’s nine starters in the EPC tournament because they were unable to attend another school-related activity. Finished in 2nd place after

“We have a lot of players who work really hard and want to get better. That’s our motto: work hard and get better,” said Conrad. “I don’t care about the results. It’s important that I get better every time I step on the court.”

Conrad felt the important matches were in singles for second and third place and doubles for second place.

“Noah Potts is a great player and our mate Roman Farhad is a really good player, but we knew it would be difficult to beat Noah,” said Conrad. “Also, I felt like I had a depth advantage in the second doubles, but his other three matches were very close and I knew it was going to be.”

However, Brodzkowski broke 7-6 (7-4) 6-4, so Liberty lost first place in doubles for the first time this season and Freedom lost third place in singles for the first time this season. Appleman won his second place by almost the same score, 7-6 (7-3) 6-4.

“We won last year, but we weren’t happy. We wanted to win again,” said the junior Appleman. “In the regular season with them, we won the doubles for the second time and David lost, but we still got results. I feel confident that I can win.”

Brozkowski, another junior, said he had watched the last two years’ division finals and was inspired when the Liberty won last year.

“I put in a lot of work in the offseason and it’s nice to see that work pay off,” Brozkowski said. “I am so grateful to our team and coaches for getting us this far and helping us on our journey.”

Senior Jobs said he didn’t play well in his first match against Freedom and that the match was a close one the entire time.

“Today we knew how they played so we had to get the ball back and be more consistent. “

“Coach Conrad is a great coach,” said Quan. “He knows a lot of drills and prepares very well for each match.”

Jobs said Conrad was more like a father than a coach.

“I can go to him for anything,” Jobs said on his way to Penn State. He’s one of the guys, he knows who he is, he works with the players in the offseason, he’s just a great guy, a great guy to have in my life. I might play club tennis in college, but Coach Konrad is building a special program, so I’ll keep watching what he’s doing.”

A special program that has already won 3 districts in a row in the 2017-19 season. After the pandemic robbed him of his 2020 season, the Hurricanes have won gold in the last two his seasons after finishing his 2nd place behind Parkland in 2021.

Liberty will host a state tournament on May 16 against the #4 seed in District 1. The quarter-final he will be held at the Hershey Racquet Club on May 19, and the semi-final and final he will finish on May 20. The Hurricanes lost to Downingtown East. Last year, the first match was 3 wins and 0 losses.
