Kennett Square — Thankfully, the residents of the Kendal Crosslands community and the staff working there were safe and secure when the wreckage of Hurricane Ida struck Chester County in early September. But soon they realized that their local neighbors weren’t asking for help and felt they were asked for help. Avondale locals lost everything in the wreckage floods, and the Kennett Community Services (KACS) quickly intervened to coordinate relief efforts.
The retired community has partnered with KACS to launch food, cash and gift card donations.
Lisa Marcilio, Chief Executive Officer of Kendal Crosslands, said: “The drive we have made over the past few weeks is our residents and staff who live the values of our responsibility to the wider community:
The community has coordinated its efforts with KACS and set up a donation drive. As a result, within a week, we collected £ 1,400 of food and over $ 16,000 in cash and gift cards.
Rear Reynolds, Executive Director of Kennett Area Community Services, said: “We are grateful to the community for answering the phone to help others.”
