More than 4,000 firearms were denied purchases in Pennsylvania.

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – By the end of 2022, more than 4,000 people in Pennsylvania were denied the purchase or transfer of firearms.

The Pennsylvania State Police said there were 321,664 background checks last quarter, the second-highest quarter of the year.

The Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) is used by local and state law enforcement and firearms dealers to determine whether someone has the legal capacity to own a firearm.

In the last quarter of 2022, 4,246 were denied and 1,946 were referred to local police, state police or ATF.

Thirty-four people were arrested with warrants at the point of purchase, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
