A man rescued by paramedics after a tree fell in a strong wind was trapped in a temporary toilet on the Gettysburg Civil Warfield in the south. Pennsylvania..
Barlow’s Volunteer Fire Department said on its Facebook page that it was summoned to the Little Round Top, an important scene of the Union victory over the Confederates in 1863 at Gettysburg National Military Park just before 4 pm on Friday.
Assistant Chief Joe Robinson told the York Daily Record that a tree was found on the car, but no one was inside. Park Ranger told them that the tree trapped the man in a portable toilet.
According to Robinson, the crew treated it like a car entrapment, cutting wood with a chainsaw, and then cutting open a portable toilet with another saw.
“He was very lucky,” Robinson said. He was a volunteer firefighter for 30 years. “It was a big tree, and it just missed hitting him. It could have been very serious.”
The man was alert and talking to first responders when he was taken to an ambulance to be taken to Gettysburg Hospital with a potentially life-threatening injury.
Paramedics throughout the region responded to many calls for fallen trees and wires, as well as fires in windy conditions, officials said.
