Andrew Dan Jr. of Kutztown University finished second in the heavyweight division at NCAA Division II

Andrew Dan Jr. of Kutztown University finished second in the heavyweight division at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in St. Louis on Saturday.

Top-seeded Dan lost 5-3 to Minnesota’s second-seeded Darrell Mason in the final in an attempt to win his second national title. Dan, a graduate student in Bethlehem, won the championship in 2019. The 2020 Games have been canceled as well as KU’s 2020-21 season.

Mason (22-0) took down to 2-0 in the first period. Dan (23-1) connected it with two escapes.

Mason escaped in 3rd place to lead 3-2 and took another takedown with 1:02 remaining to reach 5-2. Dan escaped with 57 seconds remaining, but couldn’t tie it.

Dan advanced with a 3-1 overtime victory over defending St. Cloud State University’s national champion Cameron teacher in the semi-finals.
Dan finished his KU career three times nationwide with a record of 69-3.
