Pennsylvania Raises Wine, Liquor Store Prices for 2023

Altoona, Pennsylvania (WTAJMore) — Price hikes are about to hit your wallet again in Pennsylvania, as prices for everything from gasoline to eggs are rising.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) will increase prices on a variety of products in stores across the state beginning January 15th. The 4% price hike will affect more than 3,500 products on sale, PLCB said.

This price increase will then follow recent trends in 2023. Tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the PA gas tax Both increased with the new year.

While 3,500 items may seem like a lot, there are many items, such as special orders and clearance items, that haven’t seen a price increase.

Exceptions to this price increase are:

  • About 5,600 bulk purchases (seasonal items, luxury items)
  • 2,700 clearance items
  • 100 PA Proud items at 10 Fine Wines & Good Spirits stores or less
  • Special order
  • The 397 items that continue to be on sale in January will have the same price increase starting January 30th at the regular price of each item.

In a statement, a PLCB spokesperson said:

“These increases will allow PLCB to increase operating costs by 8% annually over the past four years, as well as projected cost increases this year related to labor, distribution, leasing, credit card fees, etc. We can generate the revenue we need.”

PLCB said it was the first time since 2019 that it has opted for such an overall price increase, other than passing on vendor price increases.
