After a national survey, Northampton Community College elects president

David A. Ruth has been appointed as the next president of Northampton Community College, the school said in a news release on Tuesday. Scheduled to retire next month After about 10 years in charge.

With an associate degree from Hagerstown Community College in Hagerstown, Maryland and a higher education, Ruth is the fifth president in more than 50 years of history.

The university conducted a national job title survey.

“As a graduate of a community college, he recognizes our students and their needs. Having played an executive role at NCC, he has a good understanding of the heart and soul of our university. As part of the college’s leadership team, he brings a fresh perspective on building our successful future, “said Robert Fennell, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Northern Stampton.

Ruth, who joined Northern Pton as Vice President and Chief of Staff in 2016, previously worked for Drexel University in Philadelphia for 23 years, of which more than 10 years was Student Dean and Student Secretary General. At Drexel, he led more than 120 staff and provided curriculum and joint curriculum programs and services to 26,000 students at multiple campus locations.

In addition to his associate degree, Ruth holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland. She holds a master’s degree in secondary education and mathematics from Lehigh University. She holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from Drexel University.

Ruth acknowledged Ericsson for his legacy, including doubling school donations to $ 86 million over the past decade. It is one of the largest community colleges in the country.

“This is a special place with so many great past achievements and so many great opportunities,” Ruth said. “It’s a university of possibilities, incredible promises, great potential, and the depth of talented and truly dedicated people who are the lifeline of NCC.”

Ruth becomes president on July 1st. He and his wife, Christine, have four children. Nick, 22 years old. Nate, 18; Abbey, 16; and Andy, 13.

Founded in 1967, Northern Pton has campuses in Bethlehem Township, South Bethlehem, and Monroe County, serving approximately 30,000 students from 25 states and 42 countries each year.
