Multiple police respond after Youngstown police officer shot

Youngstown, Ohio (WKBN) – Police said there was a large police presence on the South Side of Youngstown on Friday night after a police officer was shot.

Lieutenant Jason Simon of the Youngstown Police Department said when he received a credible call of several people with assault rifles and pistols standing on the street near 400 blocks of West Judson Street at about 10 p.m. Said he was out on a saturation patrol.

Simon said several police patrol vehicles from the city of Youngstown headed to the scene with their lights on, believing there was a possible incident.

When officers arrived, Simon said several people ran and one fired at least one shot at the officer. Simon could not determine whether the officer was inside or outside the vehicle at the time.

Simon said police had set up a fence around the area to search for the suspect. But they didn’t find him. He urged anyone with information about the suspect to come forward to the police.

No officers were injured, but multiple departments responded, including Liberty Police, YSU Police and Campbell Police.

It was later revealed that the rally was to commemorate the victims of the recent mass shooting.
