POTTSTOWN — The new cafe uses organic juices and plant-based dishes to give the community a healthy boost.
Jennifer Fisher opened Vyana Café earlier this year at 170 South Street in Pottstown. Vyana is a Sanskrit word for one of the ways energy flows through the body.
“It’s our cycle within ourselves, because our bodies imitate the entire universe,” Fisher said. “Vyana is like taking nutrition and processing it through our body, the circulatory system.”
She named the cafe Vyana, which could be a place to nourish the surrounding community with fresh produce.
One of the cafe’s main attractions is refreshing organic juices and smoothies. Fisher has been drinking juice for about 20 years and states that the drink has many health benefits.
“The juice was so simple that it was really profound to me, and it gave me a kickstart to help my body feel better,” she said. “About a pound of fruit or vegetables makes about 10 ounces of juice.”
The best-selling drink at the cafe is aojiru called Anahata. Contains spinach, kale, celery, cucumbers, apples and lemons.
“It tastes very fresh. It tastes very clean,” Fisher said.
There are also juices such as pineapples, beets and carrots. According to Fisher, each juice is the color and name of the chakra and maintains the theme of the cafe. Chakra is a Sanskrit word for the energy center of the body.
In addition to healthy drinks, the cafe also offers a variety of plant-based cooking options. The menu includes vegetable burritos, kale chips and zucchini noodles. If you’re looking for something sweet but nutritious, you can get desserts such as plant-based cheesecake, brownies, and chia pudding.
Fisher said he wants the food served at the cafe to be simple, delicious and healthy. She said her goal was to create foods that were friendly and packed with fresh nutrients.
Fisher opened Vyana Café in March of this year after being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The cafe is currently open from 9am to 2pm on Saturdays and from 11am to 1pm on Sundays. Initially she wanted the cafe to open full-time, but decided to start over the weekend to see how the community would react to it.
Café is not the first wellness-focused business Fischer opened in Pottstown. A few years ago she opened the Saman Holistic Center. The studio offers several wellness classes and services. Classes include yoga, Pilates and groupers. Services include sound healing and holistic facials.
“My dream has always been to put all the communities of like-minded companies in one central location,” Fisher said.
The Samana Holistic Center is now right next to a cafe on South Street. Fisher said it would be very convenient to have businesses next to each other. People take classes in the studio and stop at cafes for juice and food. If you stop by the cafe, you can get a free classpath that you can use in the studio.
