Shane Ferguson of Morrisville threatened forced coercion, worsened vulgar assault, worsened vulgar assault on people under the age of 16, vulgar assault on people under the age of 16, and child welfare in September. He pleaded guilty to rape by exposing him to.
In a statement on the impact on the victim on March 15, the victim’s mother told Judge Gary B. Gilman of Common Preas that the attack “fear, complete panic, anxiety” to her daughter. He said it was a “terrible nightmare” to cause. “We need to send a reverberating message to sexual predators,” she said.
Gilman sentenced Ferguson to a state prison for seven to fifteen years and ordered him to be registered as a lifelong sex offender. He was also sentenced to two to four years in prison for violating parole and was executed at the same time as his sentence in the rape case.
On January 17, 2021, deputy district attorney Christine McElroy said the attack on the victim “stands out as one of the most violent” indicted in her career.
That day, Fallstownship police were dispatched to a Fallstownship apartment to report domestic turmoil. Upon arrival, police discovered the uproar caused by sexual assault.
The victim’s 13-year-old girl told police she was sleeping in her bedroom when Ferguson woke her up and raped her. She tried to escape, but Ferguson grabbed her and pushed her into the sofa in her living room, continuing her sexual assault.
The victim was able to scratch Ferguson’s face and stop him, but as she escaped from the apartment and went down the stairs, Ferguson chased her and grabbed her hair. When Ferguson fell on her, she managed to escape.
Ferguson fled the scene before police arrived and was arrested in Florida a month later by members of the United States Marshals Service Florida Caribbean Fugitive Task Force.
The case was investigated by the Fallstownship Police Department, led by Detective John Bella. Deputy District Attorney Christine M. McElroy has filed a proceeding with the Back County District Attorney’s Office.
