Washington, PA (KDKA) — Police are looking for a man in Washington County who says he is “armed and dangerous.”
Police said he fired multiple shots near the playground while dozens of children were playing outside.
“I heard boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, and six or seven of them, looked out the window and heard the car yelling at the tree,” Rebecca Jankowski said. Said.
Jankowski and her husband Shane live in the unit’s Lincoln Terrace Housing Complex, opposite the location where the shooting took place late Tuesday afternoon.
“The entire passenger door was stripped off,” Shane said.
“I didn’t know what was going on,” Rebecca said.
Investigators said they were looking for Martes Thomas Jr. Police said Thomas fired at least 10 bullets at them with a pistol. They weren’t hit, but it happened around 4:45 pm near the playground along Forest Avenue. Neighbors said the children of the Remoin Community Center’s after-school program were playing outside.
“I still had kids everywhere,” said one neighbor. “I didn’t see teens. They were all young.”
When police appeared at the shooting scene, they found two smashed cars with no one inside. According to police, surveillance video shows Thomas crashing his car into another car with two occupants. Then I saw him driving towards Washington and Jefferson University.
According to police, Thomas broke down at the intersection of Penn Road and East Chestnut Road. He and others can be seen in a video of getting out of the car and hitting the maiden’s laundry.
Some neighbors said they were ready to leave the area.
“It’s really terrible because we don’t feel safe at home right now,” Rebecca said.
Investigators said Thomas could face additional charges. They also say they are planning other arrests.
