Police investigating shooting near Florida beach boardwalk
Nine people were injured as people frantically ran for shelter along a crowded Memorial Day beach in Hollywood, Fla., on Monday night as shootings erupted along the beach promenade. Preliminary investigations showed an altercation between the two groups led to the shooting, police said. One person has been detained and another suspect is still being sought. A video posted to Twitter on Monday night showed paramedics responding and providing relief to several injured people. Police said police would be deployed en masse as the investigation continues. Authorities have also set up areas for families to reunite. Hollywood Beach is a popular beach spot about 17 miles south of Fort Lauderdale and about 32 miles north of Miami. With the Memorial Day holiday, the beach was expected to see more tourists than usual.
