Houston (AP) — A Texas deputy police officer working as an off-duty guard at a Houston mall was fatally shot by a man who had control of his own gun, police said. .. The suspect was shot by police and died in the hospital.

Deputy Neal Adams had a second job at the Plaza Americas Mall in Houston on Thursday afternoon. When he was shot Troy Finner, Houston police chief, said it was from a man in his thirties.

Authorities are still investigating what led to the quarrel. According to Finner, the suspect rushed to the mall’s food court and was shot by two Houston police officers. The unnamed man died late Thursday at a hospital in Houston.

Adams worked as a deputy police officer in the nearby San Jacinto County, north of Houston.

Constable Roy Rogers, District 1, San Jacinto County, said Adams became an officer in 2012 and previously worked in the sheriff’s department. According to Rogers, Adams was the county’s environmental officer.

“We lost one of the heroes. He was a good person,” Rogers said. “He took care of his family and worked hard to take care of the members of our county.”
