Blues musician Buffalo Nichols precedes the opening of the Drive-By Truckers show at the Smalls Theater on Friday, October 15th. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of his answer, Nichols’ music is rich in the history of the black blues musicians who came before him.
His hit “Lost & Lonesome” has attracted the attention of musicians. With a light and deep sound and smoky vocals, Nichols’ songs are sure to please you while reflecting. His next self-titled album will be released on October 15th.
1. What kind of music do you listen to when you are not making your own music?
I try to listen to everything. There’s a lot of music in the world, and I’ve done it all.
2. What was the driving force behind your latest project?
3. Do you think you created it yourself during the tour? If so, is it just music or will it be creative in other media?
I often write and practice other instruments during the tour. In general, in my experience I don’t have much time for other media.
4. What are you most looking forward to on this tour?
The simple act of taking a tour is the most exciting part for me. We had a long break from the tour and are looking forward to the mundane parts of the road.
5. Been to Pittsburgh?
I don’t think I have one. This is my first visit and hopefully not the last.
