LOWER MERION — A new dining and board game concept, the Twenty One Pips Game Room and Kitchen, recently opened at 24 Cricket Ave. in Ardmore.

Owner of Thirsty Dice, Philadelphia’s first board game café, Twenty One Pips offers a compelling dining experience with board games, locally sourced shareable menu items, and an elevated pub-style primopiat. In addition, a selection of wine, beer and whiskey programs and a seasonal selection of craft cocktails featuring local manufacturers make up the drink program.

The name fits this concept because Twenty One Pips refers to the number of dots on a six-sided dice called pips. The large sign at the hostess station provides the meaning of the words in the “pip” dictionary.

The interior of the 5,000-square-foot family restaurant can accommodate approximately 170 guests, with a 22-foot-high ceiling and a mezzanine floor for private dining. The dramatic 15-foot-high woody moss wall is offset by an overlay of artwork by artists David Cuzick and Zach Bird depicting the playfulness of the game in everyday experiences.

The banquet is made up of refurbished church pews and comfortable booths covered in rich navy and gray fabrics adorned with tufted red buttons. This is a playful nod to the pips that are popular with the concept brand. Custom lighting creates an intimate space with colors and shapes that represent the pieces of the game. The restaurant was designed by Partum Interiors.

Unique with iconic game-themed images, including Pac-Man ghosts and exclusive game phrases, words, and quotes to further support the spirit of supporting local artist Natalie Hope McDonald.
