Playing under the pressure of being a pre-season favorite can overwhelm the team.

Abington Heights coach Jamie Spangler never distracted the team from the goal.

All teams dealt with lineup uncertainty and season conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the closure of spring sports in 2020, coaches Abington Heights returning from 2019 I felt I was talented enough to rank as a top candidate for the honor of the Lackawanna League.

The comet has accepted its role.

Throughout the season, they worked hard, improved, developed chemistry, won league titles, and set out for the District 2 Class 3A final against the timeless power of the Deladelphia Valley.

Due to his team’s concentration, Spangler was named Times Tribune Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year this season.

“It dates back to 2020,” said Spangler. “We had only a few weeks, but after a few trips to the state convention, they are the basis of where we want culture. We had a really good preseason, they understood what they missed in 2020 and took advantage of the opportunity to play this year. 1 because there isn’t much youth presence in the area. It’s hard to take a year off and come back the following year to get into full swing.

“These kids wanted to be here, learn and work hard.”

During the league season, Abington Heights defeated the considered Challenger team Western Wayne 3-1 and two wins against Blue Ridge with a score of 3-1 and 3-0. The latter came after Comets lost to North Pocono 3-1.

In addition, Comet promised two defeats in the invitation, 3-1 to Holy Ladymer and 3-0 to Dock Mennonite. Eventually he became the District 2 Class 2A champion. Holy Ladymer and Dock Christopher Mennonite set a 29-5 record.

“We knew we could do well in the league, so we knew these two games would be good metrics for us, but once we got out of the league, it didn’t work,” Spangler said. “These kids wanted to be more than a league this year. They’re aiming to reach the level of the Holy Ladymer. It was hard to hit Class 3A and play against the Deladelphia Valley, It was a very exciting match.

“I think the kids were disappointed, but in the big picture, I’m really proud of where we come from and where we are in the program.”
